Note:  Spanish fluency is NOT required, but some Spanish is helpful. Training and support are available.

Voices of our Volunteers & Interns: The CIF Experience

“I first came to the center in 2018, as a senior in high school, when a friend and I needed assistance on a school project. It was about encouraging Hispanic students to focus on their educational future. I stayed connected to the wonderful people of the center and during the COVID 19 Pandemic I had a job opportunity as a Vaccine Equity Outreach Worker helping our community receive correct information and get vaccinated!

I have since  graduated from an out-of-state college and decided to come back to volunteer and intern. My goals are to continue to network and be an asset to this community and organization. I am currently helping with program operations and Wage Theft recovery.”

Fun Fact: Raquel represented CIF and Centreville High School at a Dulles Chamber Hispanic Heritage Event 2018 where she taught then Executive Director, and a Virginia Delegate how to Salsa!

Raquel Villalobos, Summer Intern 2023

“The volunteer experience has been rewarding for me because I like the people there, although it is too far from Reston to go as often as I would like. I am retired now, after working for the World Bank/ Banco Mundial for 21 years as an economist and 8 years as a consultant. Much of the time I was working with governments in Latin America and the Caribbean. I got connected to CIF through my church United Christian Parish of Reston I realized that it would be a good organization for me to volunteer with!”

Fun Fact: I have 16 grandchildren!

Steven Webb, Development Committee Volunteer – 2020 to present

“I learned about Centreville Immigration Forum from the Mission Coordinator at Centreville United Methodist Church. I became involved at that time and then the following years during the establishment of the Labor Resource Center.  Since then I have participated in various activities at the Center.  For several years, I taught ESL in the evenings and led some crafting sessions with the women on Saturday mornings. Currently, I am a member of the Human Resources Committee”

Fun Fact: Kitty brought a lot of English teaching experience and her English for Speakers of Other Language resources are still being used at the center!

Katheryn Stapleton, ESOL Coordinator 2017-18, Human Resources Committee Member 2021-present

“I am a member of the Clifton Presbyterian Church and chairman of the Mission Committee. We support the Centreville Immigration Forum with a few volunteers and some financial support. At CIF, we have helped with some accompaniment and delivery of food to homes. We will continue to provide support.  Many thanks for your good work.”

Fun Fact: Mark also works with Western Fairfax Christian Ministries, a partner that provides a satellite refrigerator for CIF members!
